The prototype Vimy after modification with Samson engines. The work was done at RAF Joyce Green. This aerodrome had canvas hangars like that in the photo and it is assumed the photo was taken at Joyce Green. Vickers consolidated its aircraft manufacturing at Brooklands after World War I. B9952 was allocated the registration G-EAAR but does not appear to have been painted on the aircraft. The registration was cancelled in May 1920. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

An adaption of the Vickers Vimy Commercial by ANF Les Mureaux (Ateliers de construction du Nord de la France), powered by two 370-hp Lorraine 12 engines. Its type name is often given as 'Express Les Mureaux', but the nose seems to confirm that it is really simply 'Express'. The title on the fuselage probably reads 'ANF Les Mureaux (Seine et Oise, France)'. There is a number 5 visible below that and on the wingtip. The aircraft was apparently delivered to the airline Compagnie des Grands Express Aériens (CGEA). Construction number 40 also given. Photo from: Bibliothèque nationale de France - Gallica

On 2nd -3rd July 2005, this Vickers Vimy replica, NX71MY, successfully re-enacted Alcock & Brown's trans-Atlantic flight from St Johns, Newfoundland to Clifden, Ireland, in just under 19 hours. It was built California in 1994 and for the trans-Atlantic flight equipped with a pair of Orenda OE600 V8s. The Toronto Aerospace Museum hosted the Vimy May 25-June 1 while a team from Toronto-based Orenda inspected the engines. Steve Fossett and Mark Rebholz departed Downsview on June 1 escorted by four WW1 replica fighters from the Great War Flying Museum. Fossett died in a crash on Sep. 3, 2007.

"Triple First" on display in the Grahame-White Factory at RAFM Hendon. The aircraft was so named after the first Atlantic, Australia and South Africa flights by Vimys. This replica was built by the Vintage Aircraft and Flying Association (VAFA) with original Rolls-Royce Eagle Mk.IX engines and flown a few times in 1969. Following a fire in July 1969, it was restored in 1972 and moved to Hendon in 1983. It is painted as a strategic bomber built at Weybridge in 1918, though too late to see action in WW1.

The flight had officially ended at Darwin but the crew, the Smith brothers, Shiers and Bennett travelled on to eventually reach the brothers' hometown of Adelaide via the east coast capitals. This aircraft piloted by Steve Fossett with co-pilot Mark Rebholz succesfully completed a non-stop crossing of the Atlantic on 20 July 2005, re-creating the epic first crossing by Alcock and Brown in June 1919. The flight lasted 18 hrs 15 minutes. It is seen here at the De Havilland Moth Rally where it was a guest.

Perhaps the most historically significant aircraft in Australia, this Vimy (affectionately known as God 'elp All Of Us) made the first ever flight from England to Australia in 1919. Built for the RAF as F8630, it was converted by Vickers for the England-Australia Air Race. In the capable hands of Ross & Keith Smith, Shiers and Bennett it departed Hounslow on 12 November 1919, reaching Darwin in 27 days 20 hours. G-EAOU has resided since 1958 in a purpose-built shelter at Adelaide Airport.
