One of Western Airlines' newer 727 when photographed. They would take delivery of new 727s right up through 1981. Delivered May 31, 1978, N831WA carried into Delta Airlines' fleet in 1986 and retired in November 2002, stored at Victorville, CA. Sold to a leasing company, the airliner flew on as 9L-LEL beginning in 2004. First two months with Albarka Airlines in Nigeria, then with Kam Air in Afghanistan for six months, it ended up with Iraqi Airways in September 2004.
