One of Western Airlines' newer 727 when photographed. They would take delivery of new 727s right up through 1981. Delivered May 31, 1978, N831WA carried into Delta Airlines' fleet in 1986 and retired in November 2002, stored at Victorville, CA. Sold to a leasing company, the airliner flew on as 9L-LEL beginning in 2004. First two months with Albarka Airlines in Nigeria, then with Kam Air in Afghanistan for six months, it ended up with Iraqi Airways in September 2004. Last records show the aircraft stored at Baghdad International Airport.

To Delta Air Lines after a merger in 1986. After that to 9L-LEL with Teebah Airlines. Was leased to Kam Air and Iraqi Airways. Withdrawn from use at Baghdad in 2008.

Delivered Western Airlines in May 1978. That became Delta Airlines in April '87. Left the fleet in spring 2004, for Teebah Airlines (9L-LEL). Stored/scrapped in 2009 in Baghdad.
