Construction of the first airport near Lhasa began in 1955 at an altitude of 4200 m (13,800 ft). An Ilyushin Il-12 and a Convair CV-240 were the first aircraft to land at Damxung. There was no telephone and no electricity at the airport. Requiring constant runway repairs, it did not last long, but satellite imagery shows a brand new airport built at this very site circa 2020! China Northwest Airlines took delivery of this A300 November 17, 1994 during tremendous expansion in China after it began to open up in the 1980s. Merged with China Eastern Airlines in 2003 when the the government consolidated some domestic carriers, the aircraft was operated until 2014 when it was withdrawn and stored. Converted to a freighter in 2018, it was leased to Uni-top Airlines from September 2018. Uni-top stored it again (with another A300) at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in 2019.

Three C-46s in any one place is pretty special but when they are Chinese Air Force that makes it even more so. These were one of the first displays to be seen when entering the museum in 1991, sadly, none at the time had visible serials. One, since identified as 36044 has moved on to the China Civil Aviiation Museum while the other two, both of which remain unidentified remain at Datangshan.
