Sold to a US owner as N10801 in 1968 with the apparent intention of using it in Biafra but the aircraft remained stored in Portugal, eventually making it to the US in 1978. Delivered to the FA Salvadorena in 1985 and became the fourth airframe converted to a BT-67 by Basler in 1990. Withdrawn and stored at Ilopango by February 2011, still present in 2019.

The type was used extensively in the civil war between 1980 and 1992 and following the lifting of the embargo were replace by Cessna A-37s. Several have been preserved but 701 was scrapped in 2002

The type was used extensively in the civil war between 1980 and 1992 and following the lifting of the embargo were replace by Cessna A-37s. Several have been preserved but 701 was scrapped in 2002

Look at that. Champions were common cropdusters in the area in 1960s, but many complained of its low speed characteristics, so they modified the rudder fin to ensure more yaw authority. I have only seen this modification in El Salvador and in a single Guatemalan of the same type.
