Its German crew of 2.(Fern)/AufklGr.22 mistakenly landed the plane behind Allied lines at Montecarvino airfield, near Salerno, on 27 November 1943. A newly assembled P-51K Mustang IV is being prepared for delivery by members of the Ringway-based 14 Ferry Pool, Air Transport Auxiliary. Its TDB shows it to be ex 44-12273. It later served No. 611 Squadron. Obtained from an ATA pilot 50 years ago.
