Aircraft of No 1426 (Enemy Aircraft) Flight at RAF Collyweston , the western side of Wittering. Its German crew of 2.(Fern)/AufklGr.22 mistakenly landed the plane behind Allied lines at Montecarvino airfield, near Salerno, on 27 November 1943. Photo date not given by IWM but another shot taken by RAF photographer Goodchild at Collyweston is dated 22 February 1945. This is not the Me 410 which you may have seen in the RAF Museum Cosford. A newly assembled P-51K Mustang IV is being prepared for delivery by members of the Ringway-based 14 Ferry Pool, Air Transport Auxiliary. Its TDB shows it to be ex 44-12273. It later served No. 611 Squadron. Obtained from an ATA pilot 50 years ago.
