Refurbished in 1977 and issued to 8 Sqn 5th May 1977 to replace WL738 as a pilot-training aircraft with the unit. Coded A. Suffered a heavy landing at Lossiemouth during 1980 and declared Cat.5(GI). Issued with maintenance serial 8651M and used by the Battle Damage Repair Flight at Lossiemouth until transferred to the Fire Section 20th February 1981 and scrapped July 1982.

Cathay Pacific was the only airline to operate Convair jetliners on scheduled services into Australia and then only to Perth from Hong Kong via regional ports Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. The delivery of Boeing 707s allowed Cathay to establish non-stop services to the major eastern Australian markets.
