This 1977 Chieftain was originally registered in the USA as N63735. In 1986 it came to Australia and seems to have been originally registered VH-AFP(3), before becoming VH-MBP and then VH-OZP in 'the Aus-Air block'. Aus-Air was a Moorabbin-based RPT operator that ran mostly Chieftains and also a Bandit, at least when I used to deal with their flight plans!

This Auster is operated by the owner of the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in South Australia's Flinders Ranges. It was imported new and registered VH-KCJ on 3 January 1957. In the 1970s it spent some time with the Bathurst Soaring Club as a glider tug, as many Austers were in those days. It's seen here attending the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's Auster Rally.

This Terrier belongs to the President of the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia and attended the Association's Auster Rally at Broken Hill. The last 'true' Auster, the Beagle Terrier was a civil conversion from the military Auster AOP.6. Only 45 Terrier 2s were built, 64 Terriers in all, so this is a fairly rare aircraft.

The last 'true' Auster, the Beagle Terrier was a civil conversion from the military Auster AOP.6. Only 45 Terrier 2s were built, 64 Terriers in all, so this is a fairly rare aircraft. This one was built for the RAF as VF634. Civilianised, it was allocated the 'B Conditions' marks G-35-11 before being registered G-ASWM on 14 September 1964. Later exported to Australia and registered VH-WFM(2) on 12 March 1981.

This is not the real VH-MSF! This Nomad is the former VH-RCC and was first flown on 12 October 1976. It was delivered to Bush Pilots Airways but was displayed by the manufacturer at the 1977 Paris airshow. It was used for a time on a scheduled Sydney-Maitland run with Clubair/Wings Australia. The aircraft was withdrawn from service in about 1990 and shipped to Broken Hill in parts where it was reassembled and painted to represent one of two RFDS Nomads that were once based at Broken Hill.

Attending the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's Auster Rally at Broken Hill was Graeme Smith's newly-restored Auster J.5F Aiglet Trainer VH-BYF(2). The aircraft made its first flight following a decade-long restoration to immaculate condition only a week before the event. It has an interesting pedigree, being a composite of the fuselage of the former VH-BYE and the wings of VH-SAE, which was originally registered VH-BYF(1) in 1953!
