After retirement from British Airways the airframe was acquired in 1981 by the MOD for possible air tanker conversion and flown to Abingdon. After almost 10 years of storage there it was ferried to Bristol Filton in January 1991 for conversion to Super VC-10 K.4 configuration, and on completion was delivered to 101 Squadron at Brize Norton in December 1994. It made its last flight on 16th December 2005 when it was ferried from RAF Fairford St. Athan where it was broken up the following year.
