At the time of this appearance it was still on the strength of 230 OCU but became the first Vulcan to have an extended ECM fin tip, becoming a B.2 (MRR) with 27 Sqdn. Scrapped in February 1982 at St Athan.

This aircraft has been fitted with under wing pylons for Shrike missiles / ECM jamming pods as used in the Falklands conflict. These are visible outboard of the main gear doors. XM612 was involved in the Falklands operations but did not perform shrike missions. In fact it never went beyond Ascension Island having been slated as a back up aircraft on a number of missions. Also of note is the 1000 gallon auxiliary fuel tank which is sitting under the starboard wing. This could be installed in the bomb-bay to extend operational range at the expense of some bomb load.

XA897 crashed after a very heavy landing in bad weather at Heathrow on October 1, 1956. It had undertaken a flight to Australia and New Zealand.
