Built as an an F-14A-85-GR, this Tomcat was one of two credited with a Libyan MiG-23 kill apiece. Tomcats from VF-32 "Swordsmen"were operating from CV-67 USS John F. Kennedy on January 4, 1989 when they engaged two MiG-23s that had taken off near Tobruk. Firing first, "Gypsy 207" launched two AIM-7 Sparrows which missed, then used an AIM-9 Sidewinder that found its target. This Tomcat was one of the few to be converted to an F-14D(R) in the early 1990s.
