For information, Uist is a very beautiful island in the Outer Hebrides off the northwest coast of Scotland.

This ATR 42 was acquired from American Eagle and after conversion to -300QC at Coventry it is now based at Glasgow in this hybrid scheme. They have painted over the American Eagle red stripe with black and applied the Highland tail design and internet titles on the fuselage. This aircraft was bought to do daily mail flights to the Scottish Islands.

Not a common visitor to Glasgow so good to catch it Taxiing out to Runway 23 for departure.

On display in its original Highland Airways colours. It was delivered to that airline in 1933, and used for the inauguration of their Aberdeen-Orkney service in July 1934 (hence the aircraft's name). After that it saw service with several operators, but always kept the same registration. In Sep 1971 it became part of the Historic Aircraft Museum at Southend. This museum closed and saw its aircraft auctioned off in May 1983, which is where the Science Museum acquired it. In 1993 it was fully refurbished and painted in the historic Highland colours you see here.
