Began her career in 9.43 with the RCAF and put into service by the RAE at West Freugh in May 1969 as 'KG661'; in 1979 it was realised that this identity actually belonged to c/n 13478 so current serial ZA947 was allocated instead! On the strength of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight since Sep 1993 and used for multi-engine training.

The 19 mark B(I)6 Canberras were built in 1955 as an interim measure pending the B(I)8, for ground-attack, interdictor and bomber roles. They served only 213 Sqn in RAFG, but this one (and WT308) went to the RAE instead. Used for weapons trials, the later 'Raspberry Ripple' scheme was modified with white undersides to improve performance of the wingtip mounted cameras. After a period as a ground apprentice trainer, she was scrapped in Jan 1998 but the nose section was saved for the FAST museum at Farnborough.

Part of the splendid Farnborough Air Sciences Trust collection. Due to space restrictions, unfortunately it is not currently possible to take good photos of the other exhibits. The fifth T.5 to be built, XS420 served 226 OCU from 1965 and then the LTF before arriving at Farnborough in 7.88. Joined FAST in 1993

This Meteor was part of the last batch of seven to be built and served the RAE for continuation and instrument training, being repainted in this scheme towards the end of its career. Crashed not long after this photo, near to the tower at Farnborough after losing control during an asymmetric overshoot, on 14th February, 1975

Classic collection of Vickers airliners, taken from the top of the famous banked motor racing track built in 1907. The fuselage of Concorde G-BBDG is visible behind Merchantman G-APEP awaiting re-assembly with her tail leaning on the shed to the right. In the background beyond Viscount G-APIM and VC-10 A4O-AB is BAC 1-11 G-ASYD

The oldest surviving Meteor in the UK; only the former EE527, preserved in Argentina, is older (prototype DG202 at the RAF Museum was an F.9/40 and never officially named Meteor). Served A&AEE and wfu at Lasham in 1953, moving to the Midland Air Museum 20 years later. Lots to see here... (note the Fairey Ultra-Light Helicopter behind)

On loan from the RAF Museum at Cosford where she was displayed in a yellow colour scheme after use on photo chase work by A&AEE (see my 1983 shot at Cosford). Now restored to original 64 Sqdn colours and a highly appropriate exhibit at the Midland Air Museum as built here at Baginton by Armstrong Whitworth, like the Argosy from which this shot was taken
