Mildenhall Air Fete 1979. Operated by 228 OCU based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The markings are of 64 Squadron which was its shadow squadron number. Delivered to the RAF on 25 June 1969. Scrapped at RAF Wattisham in Suffolk in September 1992.

From my late fathers collection. My Dad was a pilot on the squadron at the time. Three Gloster Javelin FAW9R's of the RAF's 64 Squadron from RAF Tengah in Singapore May 1967. Taken from a fourth Javelin. Nearest is XH708 / P which crashed within days of this photo being taken. Furthest from camera is XH766. XH708 was delivered to the RAF on 11 July 1957 and crashed on 30 May 1967 in a collision with XH896 10 miles northwest of Tengah. The crew of XH708 were killed.

This is from a cutting from the RAF Air Clues magazine which my Dad added to his log book. ' After completing a normal landing in a Javelin the pilot shut down the port engine, set the starboard at 50% rpm and taxied to the dispersal area. As he turned the aircraft into dispersal, the starboard main undercarriage collapsed.' This is my Dad's comment on the back of this photo 'Taxing at 10kts one sunny day.........' To RAF 09Dec58 as an FAW7. SOC Tengah 01May1968.
