Never delivered. It was used by Rolls Royce as a test bed for the RB108 vertical lift engine (situated behind the cockpit). This did not make it fly and hover like a Harrier, fortunately.

This particular aircraft spent several months at RAF Coningsby with 29(R) Squadron wearing a 1 Squadron code, but had recently adopted a 29(R) Squadron code complete with the famous "Triple X" markings. Ironically, the aircraft had recently arrived at RAF Leuchars, home of QRA North, and was being operated by 1 Squadron.

This nice Spitfire LF16E was delivered to the RAF in 1945 having been built at Castle Bromwich. It flew with the Battle of Britain memorial flight until 1960 when it was damaged in a belly landing. It is seen here acting as a gate guardian at Northolt. Acquired in 1989 by Historic Flying Ltd as G-XVIB it became airworthy again in 1995. Flown as GE-D/Winston Churchill with 349 (Belgium) markings.
