It was bad luck that this beautifully painted Super Catalina was having its engines serviced when we visited. I'd much rather have captured it without those rigs blocking my view. The aircraft carries "Super Catalina" titles and various other writings on the fuselage, all hand-painted.

The wingtip on the left belongs to a Beech 18, the one on the right to a DC-3. This Catalina was still at Ephrata by 2024. In July of that year it was acquired by the Yanks Air Museum.

After a smooth if rather late touchdown this Catalina veered starboard and smashed its port wingtip and float off on a steel harbour buoy. It spun round ,started shipping water and had to be towed to a slipway where it sank. Rebuilt at the old RAF Mount Batten seaplane base in the sound it was flown out some months later. Owner Bob Franks and passengers weren't seriously hurt, and the Catalina was still flying by 2020 (as N222FT).

After a smooth if rather late touchdown this Catalina veered starboard and smashed its port wingtip and float off on a steel harbour buoy. It spun round ,started shipping water and had to be towed to a slipway where it sank. Rebuilt at the old RAF Mount Batten seaplane base in the sound it was flown out some months later. Owner Bob Franks and passengers weren't seriously hurt, and the Catalina was still flying by 2020 (as N222FT).
