In 12.96 the MiG-23MF (Flogger-B) was withdrawn from use by the Hungarian AF. Although a good interceptor it was costly to operate and utilisation was poor, the MiG-29 being more capable. Most had less than 100 flying hours remaining before they needed expensive overhaul. India did show some interest in acquiring nine remaining MiG-23MF's and two MiG-23UB's at that time but did not proceed

The 42 Aéronavale F-8E(FN) air superiority fighters delivered from 1965 had increased wing lift and upgraded radar. From 1990, 17 were modified as F-8P (Prolongé), including this 12F example, but the last was withdrawn in late 1999.
