Here in the previous colours to those worn at the time of my photo #20489, this C-54 is now displayed in USAAF marks with its original serial of 44-9063 at Frankfurt Rhein-Main. After brief war service it was converted to DC-4 N88887 with Pan Am, HB-ILU with Swissair followed by Balair, then after Aer Turas ownership from 1969 to 1977 with Globe Aero reverting to N88887. In 1983 it was registered ZS-LMH with National Air Cargo, once more returning to N88887 in 1987 before sale to Liberia World Airlines as EL-AJP, again back to the N-reg at the end of 1988. Bought by the USAF Museum in 1990

Built 1946. Delivered to Northwest A/L as NC6403 18 March 1946. To Trek Airways as ZS-CIG April 1958. On -3 Sept.1960 while en route from Cairo to Johannesburg via Entebbe, the No.2 engine caught fire at 9,500ft and could not be contained. Unable to reach the Egyptian airfield at Assiout, it was belly-landed in a sandy area of the desert near El Badary. Despite the aircraft being in flames, all 61 passengers and 6 crew escaped to safety, although the aircraft was destroyed by the fire. Fire thought to have been caused by a leak from a fuel pressure pipe, ignited by sparks from the generator.

Auctioned 1974, civilianized for Aero Union as aerial tanker N62342, active until early 1990's. Cancelled 2001 as exported to Canada, registered to Buffalo Airways 2007 as C-FBAK for spares use at Hay River.

Millardair C-GQIB 1978, Omni Aircraft Sales N500EJ 1990, Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation 1994, the well known "Spirit of Freedom". Damaged beyond repair by a tornado whilst parked at Walterboro, SC 13 April 2020. Replaced by C-54D N9015Q msn 22178 in 2021. Wore promotional Northwest markings for a short period in 1997.

Smartly painted in late-1950s Qantas colours and named 'Norfolk Trader' to represent C-54A VH-EDB, HARS intend to return this aircraft to flight. It was built as C-54E-15-DO 44-9126 for the USAAF and entered MASDC in 1971, sold as N9013V in 1975 and changed hands many times before bought by Pacific Air Freighters in June 1995 becoming VH-PAF. Ferried Brisbane-Albion Park in June 2008 for HARS as VH-EAY. Initially keeping its metallic finish, it was painted with 1960s Qantas ochre colours left side and Airlines of NSW right side until changed to this earlier iteration after 2019

Kept under cover in Tempelhof's Hangar 6, and now part of the collection of the German Museum of Technology. There are proposals for these facilities to be developed into a modern exhibition area in which more of the Museum's collection could be displayed.

Displayed in standard USAF silver/white top livery until 1999 when repainted to represent an aircraft of the 313th TCG, Fassberg AB, Germany as operated in the Berlin Airlift

A bright and shining Carvair. Tailnumber N5459M was not yet painted on the airframe.

Crashed on 21 June 1995 after a mid-air collision with Baron N156Z while on approach to Ramona, CA. The two crew of the C-54 and sole pilot of the Baron all died.

Manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Company Inc, Santa Monica, this C-54 was delivered US Army Air force 14/5/1945 war service serial 44-9126. Utilised for troop and cargo transport until 1971, this C-54 was retired and stored at Davis Montham Airbase in Arizona. In 1995 brought to Australia for Pacific island freight operations, then stored at Archerfield until being donated to HARS in 2008 and flown to Albion Park in December 2009, to be restored to flying condition.
