The Museu do Ar section in Ovar, North Portugal, had about ten aircraft on display in a hangar shared with operational aircraft. The Brazilian Air Force Esquadrilha da Fumaca (Smoke Squadron) performed their first demonstration on May 14, 1952 equipped with North American T-6 Texans. The team received their first Embraer EMB 312 Tucanos in 1983. Tragically, 1305 pictured crashed at Curitiba - Bacacheri (SBBI ) airport on take-off November 2, 1989 after an engine failure. The airport is in a heavily populated suburb and the pilot continued to fly the aircraft to protect those on the ground before ejecting too low to survive. During the 1955 flood in Yuba City, California, this particular HO4S rescued 138 people in twelve hours. Photo date and location unknown to me. This airframe served in the US Coast Guard from 1953 until 1967, although it should have been marked as an HH-19G after 1962. It is marked as an HO4S-3, without its G suffix for the USCG model.
