The RAAF Museum's Avro 504K is a replica constructed from the original drawings by Hawker Restorations in the UK in 1999 using original fittings, instruments and Le Rhône engine. It is flyable and was registered G-BYKV. Painted as E3747, it represents one of the 20 received by the Australian Flying Corps in 1919 for the Central Flying School. E3747 took part in the First Peace Loan to raise money to cover the cost of World War I. Showgrounds and racecourses provided suitable open space near towns at a time when only a few airstrips, military or civil, existed in Australia. E3747 was damaged at Gympie on September 17, 1919 and sent back to the Central Flying School at Point Cook for repairs. Struck off charge in April 1920. A replica of E3747 is displayed at the RAAF Museum. Photo from: State Library of Queensland
