I-AMDA was one of the prototypes of the MB-339C, a follow-up of the MB-339A.

The MB-339 on display is the 163rd built and was the prototype for the C model. It made its first flight on 17 December 1985. Its civil registration I-AMDA stands for AerMacchi Digital Avionics. Displayed at the main air shows, in 1988 it also flew a demonstration tour in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Australia. It made its last flight on 20 March 1997. After being stored at Venegono, it was loaned to the Museum in 2010 by Alenia Aermacchi.

This MB-339 is the 163rd frame produced and was the prototype for the C model. It was built in 1985 and first flew in December 1985. Its civil registration I-AMDA stands for AerMacchi Digital Avionics and in 1988 the plane flew a demonstration tour in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Australia. It made its last flight in March 1997 and was then stored at Venegono, before being loaned to Volandia in 2010 by Alenia Aermacchi.

Taken at Edinburgh RAAF Base Adelaide SA, the MB-339 was being demonstrated to the RAAF. The sales tour led to an order from the New Zealand air force but the RAAF settled on BAe Hawks to meet its requirement for a lead-in fighter.
