This photo is believed to show VH-EAD on a charter from Sydney during the grounding of TEAL's flying boat fleet with engine problems. The four-month loss of the Short Sandringhams was mainly covered by DC-4s chartered from Trans-Australian Airlines and Australian National Airways. The Qantas charter was one-off and why it went to Ohakea instead of Whenuapai (Auckland) is not clear. The flying boats and the DC-4 charters used Auckland, Mechanics Bay and Whenuapai respectively. Winjeel A84-435 was delivered to the RAAF in October 1956 and served with 1 BFTS at Point Cook until 1968, later being used by 76 Sqdn as a FAC aircraft. Civilianised as VH-KHZ, it was re-registered VH-EAD in June 2005 and is maintained in fully airworthy condition by HARS

Sold to the RAAF in March 1979

VH-EAD prior to receiving weather radar. A generation of spotters used the embankment behind the Connie as a vantage point. It had carried a railway freight line but by the time of the photo the line had been realigned to allow the airport to expand. The embankment is now gone but the realigned railway remains in use.

One of an excellent series of photos Qantas took of VH-EAD over Sydney and along Sydney's coast. This photo off Box Head, Broken Bay. -EAD was built as an L1049E in 1955 and was upgraded firstly with weather radar and then turned into a Super G with tip tanks. Sold in the US as N9721C in 1960.

This 707 was delivered to Qantas on March 27/1968. it was sold to the RAAF on April 1/1979. Finally sold to Omega Air Inc. in the USA.

This aircraft made its first flight at Fishermans Bend on 27 September 1956 and was delivered to the RAAF the following month. After service at 1 BFTS, and later 76 Squadron as a FAC aircraft, it was stored dismantled at Moorebank , NSW between 1985 & 1996. Sold at auction in 1996 and civil registered as VH-KHZ on 11 February 1997. Re-registered as VH-EAD on 30 April 2002 and currently on loan to HARS.

Touching down on Heathrow's 10L, "City of Melbourne" was delivered new to Qantas on 27.3.68, later becoming "City of Newcastle" before moving to the R Australian AF as A20-624 in 3.79 serving until sold to Omega Air in 2011, stored by Omega Aerial Refueling Service Inc

VH-EAD was delivered in March 1968. It was renamed City of Newcastle in 1971 and City of Ballarat in 1974. Withdrawn from use and sold to the RAAF in 1979 as A20-624.
