To the best of my knowledge this is the only image of the QANTAS Electra VH-ECD shot during its lease to TAA from 8 March 1960 to 9 September 1960. Note the aeroplane is wearing the period "Dayglow" TAA tail while still retaining the white under window cheatline of the QANTAS livery.

Leased to Air New Zealand as ZK-TED in April 1970. Did not return to the Australia register.

Photo believed to be taken soon after 707 VH-EBB (background) had returned from Boeing following conversion to a 707-138B with JT3D turbofans. Earlier in 1961, -ECD had also returned from the US where it had received LEAP modifications in the wake of several inflight break-ups. Qantas photo.

VH-ECD was delivered to Qantas in December 1959. It was notable in the Qantas fleet for operating the first Electra service from Sydney to Johannesburg via Melbourne, Perth, Cocos Islands and Mauritius in April 1963. In 1970 it was leased to Air Zealand as ZK-TED. It did not return to the Australian register and was sold in the Nomads travel club as N863E in 1971.
