A fortnight on from my last shot and now the CL44-O just ports one Tyne and the swing tail has been completely removed.

The CL-44-O was towed onto the European ramp yesterday and is believed to be heading for SWAM at St. Athan. The tail and outer wings have been removed but can be seen on the ground on the right of this image.

Built in 1961 as a CL-44D4-2, converted in Guppy by Conroy Aircraft Co in 68. Last airworthy CL-44 worldwide, its last flight taking place on the 18 april 2003.

This CL-44 was originally delivered to Flying Tigers as N447FT in August 1961. The plane went on to fly with Transmeridian Air Cargo (as N447FT), British Cargo Airlines (N447FT), Heavylift Cargo Airlines (EI-BND), Buffalo Airways (EI-BND), AZAL and Baku Express (both as 4K-GUP) before becoming 9G-LCA in August 1999. The plane was first stored at Smyrna (MQY) and ferried to BOH in December 2002 for a major overhaul. In December 2006 the plane rejoined Heavylift and was registered RP-C8023 but stored due to regulatory issues. It has since been re-registered N447FT but with an uncertain future.

Ex N4700C, N2001, NC44783, 41-20133 (C-53). Originally converted with two Dart turboprops in 1969, registered as N4700C, and re-engined in 1977 (and re-registered as DC-3A-S1C3G N23SA) with three PT6A turboprops. Stored in 1980 and sold to Basler for rebuild as a Turbo-67, but not used and broken up by 2008. (A fuselage section was used in the rebuild of C-FMKB after it was severely damaged on 20 December 2007 in a take-off accident in Antarctica.)

Farnborough International Air Show 1978. A three engine turboprop DC-3 conversion. Only two were built and this aircraft spent a lot of time in the Arctic and Antarctic. Built as a C-53 for the USAAF as 41-20133 and taken on charge on 30 Mar 1942. To TWA as NC44783 on 30 May 1945. Later to N44783, N2001, N700CC and N4700C. Converted by Conroy to a DC-3TP turboprop on 13 May 1969. To N23SA in May 77 and converted to a Tri-Turbo 3. To Polair on 20 Aug 1979. Noted derelict opposite the Basler facility during EAA2023 at Oshkosh on 26 Jul 2023.
