One of the famous Iraqi Furies that came to Australia via the USA where it had been raced in these colours. Fitted with a Wright R-3350 engine in place of a Bristol Centaurus.

Really a Fury, not a Sea Fury, this aircraft was delivered to the Iraq Air Force in November 1953, serial 325. In 1979 the aircraft was recovered and shipped to the USA for restoration. It was rebuilt with a Wright R-3350 for air racing and painted in Royal Australian Navy colours. Registered N30SF on 27 August 1979 but made its first post-restoration flight in 1990. Re-registered N71GB on 13 August 2013. Exported to Australia to join the Paul Bennett Airshows flying circus and re-registered VH-HPB on 13 February 2024.

WE790 was being operated from the Australian carrier HMAS Sydney when it landed at an unnamed USMC base in Korea with engine trouble. It had been loaned as an attrition replacement by the Royal Navy from stocks it held in Singapore. WE790 returned to the RN at the end of the Sydney's 122-day deployment. This short-term loan may explain the lack of a carrier code on the fin. WE790 was struck off charge in 1958 and scrapped at Deelen in the Netherlands. Delivered new to RAN in March 1952 and retired in September 1963. Exported to U.S. in 1972 and registered as N588. This Sea Fury participated in the Reno Air Races from 1972 through 1996 except for 1976, 1977, and 1995, using race number 16. It was exported to the U.K. in 1997 and registered as G-EEMV. On 11 May 2001 the a/c was heavily damaged and the pilot perished in a landing accident at Sywell. The remains of the a/c have been exported to Sweden.

This airframe was recovered from Iraq in 1979 and is likely built up from Sea Fury airframes from the Royal Navy and the Iraqi Air Force. The centre-section is definitely marked as ex-Fleet Air Arm WJ298. After restoration in November 1983 a CoA was issued, the plane was registered VH-HFG. In November 2006 it was transported to the USA and subsequently registered N97SF. This reg was cancelled in October 2019 and the frame exported to Germany and registered D-CRZY.
