Somewhere in British Columbia I encountered this beautiful Electra from Air Spray. I hope somebody will recognize the airfield.

Waiting in readiness, carrying the bombing number "87", at the Alberta Agriculture and Forestry fire suppression tanker base at Whitecourt Airport. Converted from airline service to a retardant bomber by Conair, with whom it served as its sole Electra for only a short time, before being sold on to join Air Spray's fleet.

Closed up for the day, and catching the last of the evening light, on the ramp at Castlegar Fire Attack Base.

The grass around the ramp at a tanker base is always green and lush due to the nutrients it receives when they clean the retardant from the ramp.

Tanker 487 has just returned from a test flight in the local area.

Tanker 86 crashed while fighting a forest fire near Cranbrook, BC July 16, 2003. There were no survivors in the crash which left wreckage of the a/c spread over a large area, a tragic loss. This photograph is dedicated to the memory of the crew who perished.
