One of many wrecks and relics dotting the Ukrainian countryside, this rare MiG-21FL could be found in Radhospene, Dnipro Oblast.

On display at IAF Museum Palam wearing the emblem of No. 8 Sqn "Eight Pursoots". First inducted into the IAF in April 1963, the MiG-21F-13 or Type 74 equipped No. 28 Sqn "First Supersonics" under Wg Cdr Dilbagh Singh. This was followed by the PF and finally the FL or Type 77, which was licence manufactured by HAL. The FL was used to good effect in the 1971 Indo-Pak War on both fronts. In the West, FLs from No. 47 Sqn "Black Archers" and No. 29 Sqn "Scorpions" shot down four PAF F-104s without loss, clearly besting the Starfighter. The last IAF FLs were decommissioned in Dec. 2013.

Nose section on display at IAF Museum Shillong. The IAF was the main customer for the export version FL, and these formed the cutting edge during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, being used to good effect on both fronts. The Type 77 featured a complex SK ejection seat linked to the front-hinged canopy that acted as a blast shield. FLs were built at GAZ-21 and licence manufactured at HAL Nasik. This aircraft was decommissioned in 2006 after serving for 36 years.

On display at Yashwant Place at Chanakyapuri. Licence built by HAL, the FL was an improved version of the PF and similar to the PFM. The FL served the IAF well during the 1971 war and was succeeded by the M, MF and MiG-21bis versions.

Ringed by the obligatory plants and painted with two roundels, this Type 77 stands inside Nicco Park in Kolkata. Due to the pandemic, no rides were functioning in the amusement park, which felt eerily empty without children. License built in India, the Type 77 once formed the backbone of IAF's fighter fleet and was used to good effect in the 1971 war. The aircraft was inaugurated on Oct. 13, 2008 by Air Marshal PK Barbora, AOC-in-C Eastern Air Command and is thought to have come from Bagdogra AFS.

India retired its last MiG-21FLs on 11 December 2013. These served with an operational conversion unit at Kalaikunda, West Bengal.
