First flown in December 1941 as D-AVIU, this Ju 52 was leased and then sold to Aero O/Y by Lufthansa. It was damaged in Malmö, Sweden on 6 July 1943. Apparently it went to Germany for repairs as Ju52archiv says it was impressed by the Luftwaffe and crashed in spurious 'Savoja, Finland' on 23 March 1944 with a German military crew. Repaired. To ABA in Sweden in 1945 as SE-BUE, delivered from Germany? Eventually VH-BUU. This is certainly not a 1950s photo as indicated by the source. Damaged in a ground-loop at Baiyer River airstrip, Papua New Guinea, on October 17, 1959. Stripped of useful parts and abandoned. VH-BUU was a pre-war civil aircraft built for Lufthansa but delivered to Aero O/Y in Finland as OH-LAM. Sold in Sweden as SE-BUE in 1951 and to Gibbes in 1955. The BMW radials were replaced by Pratt and Whitney Wasps by Marshall Airways at Bankstown, Sydney, in 1956.
