Airworthy P-40M at the Tri-State Warbird Museum with a chequered history. It was assigned s/n 43-5813 in Jan 1943, though it never served with the USAAF. It was one of 301 sent to RNZAF under Lend-Lease. Taken on strength with No. 16 Sqn on 21 May 43, it was assigned s/n NZ3119. Damaged four times between 1943-44, it was relegated to No. 2 OTU. The museum bought the P-40M in 2006. Restored in 2011, it crashed, was rebuilt and won the 2016 Grand Champion WWII & Gold Wrench Award at Oshkosh. The P-40M differed to the K by its engine, radio mast and a perforated cooling grill in the nose.
