"RESEARCH 9" CV-580 just departing on it's first leg to return home after spending some time in the Las Vegas area recently

Built in 1967 for the Canadian military as 20507 then civilianized in 1990 for the NRC. Despite now being 55 years old, it flew in July 2022.

The National Research Council of Canada was formed in 1916 as the Honorary Advisory Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. It's work is mandated in two areas: Research and Technology / Industry Support. This Convair is the largest aircraft in the NRC's aviation fleet. Other types are Bell 206, 205 and 412 helicopters, Extra 300, Harvard Mk.IV, DHC-6 Twin Otter, Falcon 20 and a T-33.

Delivered to the RCAF as Beech 3NM 1538 in 1952. Converted to a 3NMT in 1961. To the National Research Council as CF-SKJ in 1965. Later C-FSKJ. To N21FS in 1992.

Pictured ready to taxi, this Convair was delivered to Bethlehem Steel as a piston powered 440 October 31, 1957. They converted it to a Convair 580 in September 1964. The aircraft came to Canada in 1973 (as CF-NRC) for the National Research Council of Canada. It has had several color schemes over the years and is still current at the time of uploading.
