N952JH has been built (remanufactured) in 2003, hence it's c/n in the 9000 range. It joined the LASD in July of 2011, having previously been registered N588AE. Supporting law enforcement duties, the helicopters are sometimes also called for rescue missions (SAR). As such, one AS332 is usually deployed to Barley Flat's during the day, an operating base in the mountains northeast of LA. However, being located at 5'600 ft AMSL, the weather did not permit the heli to reach the base the day this picture was taken, and therefore, it diverted to Brackett Field instead, standing-by from there.

Built in 1968. Destroyed when it was blown over by a gust of wind while hover-taxiing at Farmingale, NY in 2004.

Former US Navy UH-34D 145738. Converted to an S-58T and registered as N64CH then P2-PDX in 1975, N64CH in 1976, N64KK in 2005 and N5UG in 2009. Cancelled from the register in 2020.

Besides two AS-332 Super Puma's, twenty AS-350B2 form the bulk of the LA County Sheriff Department helicopter fleet. N950LA joined the fleet in 2010 and is seen here taking off for another traffic surveillance flight in supurb evening light.

Besides a large fleet of AS-350's, the LA County Sheriff Department (LASD) also operates three AS-332L1 Super Pumas. In addition to supporting law enforcement duties, those helicopters are sometimes also called for rescue missions. Unfortunately, N950SG crashed during one of those on March 19, 2022 near San Gabriel Dam (CA), luckily without loss of life. N950SG, like the LASD's other two AS332s, has been remanufactured in 2004, hence it's c/n in the 9000 range. It joined the LASD in 2013, having previously been N212AE. The AS332's replaced the LASD famous Sikorsky SH-3D Sea King.

What a lovely colour scheme to have on a Sikorski 61 and definately one of the highlights of my day at LGB.

The City of Lakewood, California, the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department and the Hughes Tool Company began the Sky Knight program in 1966 to bring airborne law enforcement from special operations to more routine patrolling and aerial command. This 1965 vintage 269B was a long serving member flying out of Long Beach airport.
