This DC-3 was acquired by Sea Star Pacific in the early 1980s and painted in their colours. Circa 1984 the titles were replaced with these "Western Pacific" titles, but no info on such an airline in 1984 could be traced (Solomon Islands-based Western Pacific Airline was founded in 1985). It still carried these titles by July 1985, but later reverted to its earlier Sea Star Pacific titles. The aircraft was eventually scrapped and sunk in the Majuro Lagoon as a divers attraction. Noted as such in 2002, still with Sea Star Pacific titles. If anybody knows more about this "Western Pacific", let me know. (photographer unknown)

USMC F4U-4s were used to provide security patrols during the Operation Castle nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll and also decontamination testing, with four operated as drones. 81624 is seen here being decontaminated. This photo is sometimes said to be at Parry Island. This comes from photos in a report purporting to show aircraft being decontaminated on Parry. However there was no airstrip on that island and elsewhere the same report says the aircraft were based at Enewetak. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland

During Konfrontasi, a conflict between Malaysia and Indonesia, allies of the UK and Malaysia were barred from Indonesia air space. RNZAF Canberras, accompanied by RNZAF Hastings, had to make a long diversion to reach their base at Tengah, Singapore. NZ6104 was lost on November 30, 1964 when it crashed at the China Rock bombing range near Singapore. Kwajalein is the base for US nuclear testing on Bikini Atoll.
