"Angel of Okinawa" inside the hangar at Fantasy of Flight. Built in 1945, the aircraft was delivered to the US Navy as BuNo 97286. It was acquired by Kermit Weeks in 1990. Damaged in 1992 by Hurricane Andrew, it was repaired for static display. The F4U-4 was accepted by the USN in Oct 1944. It was powered by a 2,100 hp P&W R-2800-18W driving a thirteen-foot Hamilton Standard four blade propeller and featured a chin air scoop. Corsairs earned their well-deserved sobriquet in the assault on Okinawa and defending USN's Fifth Fleet against tokko attacks by IJN's Fifth Air Fleet from Kyushu.

F4U-1 Bu.02270, is one of the world's oldest surviving WW2 F4U Corsairs in existent. It is only one of few remaining airframes which has the early birdcage canopy design. FLown by the USMC in the South Pacific theatre by pilots from VMF-321. On May 5th, 1944 the F4U ended up ditching in a lagoon. Here it lay until recovered in the early 2000's and 25 years later is on the home straight to completion.

Former US Navy 92433 was acquired by Frank Tallman / Movieland of the Air Museum in 1959 and registered N3440G. By 1970 the aircraft was displayed at the Flying Tiger Air museum, Paris, TX. After flying in the TV show "Baa Baa Black Sheep" 1976 - 78, the fighter was heavily damaged / destroyed in hangar fire in 1979 at Addison, TX. Parts and data plate were combined with parts from FG-1D BuNo 92471 acquired from Guatemala in 1970. Work to rebuilt the two into one started circa 1990. Assuming the identity of 92433, the aircraft was registered N773RD and flew again in 2000.

A pair of Corsairs pivot and fold their wings in unison during the evening at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024. Closer is the Goodyear FG-1D, similar to the F4U-1D. It was the ultimate -1 variant that saw many improvements, including the addition of a 160 gal. jettisonable centreline tank and the carrying of two 1,000lb bombs or 154 gal. drop tanks or napalm on stub-wing pylons. To the rear is F4U-4 N713JT, which differs externally by its four-blade propeller and a chin air scoop.

This former USMC Corsair first went to the US civil registry as N5219V in 1959. It was intended for the Honduras AF but was never delivered. After a period of storage in Blythe, CA, the aircraft was transferred to Tucson, AZ, where it was dismantled in 1973 and prepared for shipment to the Korean Aviation/War Museum in Seoul in 1974. Later, it was moved to its current location at Sacheon.

This F4U was built in 1943 at Vought's plant in Stratford, CT and is a rare example of the early "birdcage" variant. Assigned to the Carrier Qualification Training Unit (CQTU) at NAS Glenview, the aircraft was used to train pilots for carrier landings on the converted paddlewheel steamships USS Wolverine and USS Sable. Like the museum's Vindicator, it is another aircraft that fell into Lake Michigan in June 1943 while attempting a landing on the Wolverine. It was recovered from the lake in 2010 and was restored by the museum over 14 years, only recently being placed on show

After its service with the USN ended, this Corsair went to the Honduras Air Force as FAH618. It was active there from 1960 until 1978. In 1979, the aircraft was shipped back to the USA. The rear end was used to restore Corsair 81857. The remainder of the aircraft was restored using the rear end of 97059. From 2006 until 2009, the aircraft was further restored by the USS Midway museum, where it was put on display in November 2009 in VMF-225 markings (this unit deployed their Corsairs to the USS Midway in 1952). Civil registration N86434 was allocated in 2016.

This is a license-built Goodyear FG-1D , which is similar to the Vought F4U-1D. During WWII, Goodyear built 4006 Corsairs, 1997 of which were FG-1Ds. This particular aircraft was only taken up in 1945, so it may not have seen combat action. It has been painted to represent a VF-17 aircraft, the first unit to use the Jolly Rogers symbol in 1943 when operating Corsairs out of the Solomon islands. Other USN units later took over the Jolly Rogers badge, such as VF-61 and VF-84.
