The one and only Vanessa. Initially underpowered, the Lynx radial was swapped for a Whirlwind radial. The RCAF undertook a series of air mail trials with it but a float strut failed on take-off on September 9, 1927. The Vanessa tipped on its side and the propeller hacked a float in two, causing the aircraft to sink. It was salvaged but not repaired. Photo from: Canada Science and Technology Museum

Only one Vista was built. After air tests proved unsatisfactory, the Vista was shipped to the RCAF flying boat base at Jericho Beach, Vancouver in 1930 for use as a taxiing trainer and to test the durability of its duralumin hull in saltwater. It was so badly corroded within a year it was scrapped. Photo from: Ken Molson fonds - Ingenium

First Canadian built Delta. Remained in service until 1944. This photo was taken three days after its first flight which was from the Fairchild-owned seaplane base at Boucherville on the St Lawrence River that Canadian Vickers also used. Both had their factories at nearby Longueuil airfield. Flight testing continued from this facility until taken on charge by the RCAF in September. Photo from: Library and Archives Canada
