Research aircraft, second of six built. First flew in August 1951. Delivered to Farnborough in September 1951 and spent 3 years with the RAE engaged in cabin pressurisation and temperature control test work before becoming an engine test bed. Broken up in 1962. The fuselage section was subsequently removed from Farnborough passing through Dunsfold, Rhoose and Woodford before finally being put on display at Newark Air Museum.

Modified from a Tudor II, and used by the National Gas Turbine Establishment for testing the Conway jet engine in a pod under the fuselage. It was delivered to Farnborough on 4 September 1955 and was struck off charge on 13 February 1962. The remains are seen here near the water pressure tank used in the structural tests on Comet G-ALYU. The fuselage section is now at Newark Air Museum.

The Avro Ashton first flew on 1st September 1950 and six were built. Based on the Avro Tudor airframe it was for research and was fitted with 4 Rolls Royce Nene engines. Only the fuselage of this important aircraft remains, a great pity

One of six experimental test bed jet aircraft developed from the Avro Tudor but never intended for commercial use. I know that hindsight is a wonderful thing but, for me, it is incredibly sad that none of these interesting planes were saved intact.
