Now preserved in the super Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. This Shackleton was built at Woodford in 1954 and served with various squadrons in a martime reconnaisance role. In 1972 she was converted to fulfill an AEW role and named 'Dougal' (can you spot him?) as all 8 Sqn aircraft were named after characters in either The Magic Roundabout or Herb Garden.

My visit to MAN was aborted due to terrible weather so I settled for a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry. I am not so interested in photographing aeroplanes preserved indoors but this museum is really superb. This is the seventh pre-production example used primarily for testing and training. Preserved since 1968 it is displayed in immaculate condition.
