HB796/G was used as a countermeasures aircraft, tasked with dropping "window" to jam German radar. The 'G' added to the registration indicates this aircraft had to be guarded at all time. Reputed to have been the first Allied aircraft to land in southern France during the Operation Dragoon invasion after being forced down due to a technical problem. The pilot was Stanley F. Fierstein. This photo may be that event because the airstrip is very rough and sandy. 111 TFS was based at Frejus following the invasion but it was an established airfield.
