The 8th Beaufort built. Shipped to Australia as a pattern aircraft for Australian production. The unreliability of the Taurus engine and fears of a supply disruption saw it replaced with the reliable Pratt and Whitney R-1830. The RAAF used this engine on Dakotas, Catalinas and Hudsons and it was being licensed-built in Australia. Bristol in the UK separately produced an R-1830 powered aircraft until the Taurus problems were overcome. L4448 received the RAAF serial A9-1001. It crashed on February 27, 1943 at Darwin. T9583 was built in Australia for the RAF in Singapore. Singapore fell to the Japanese before it could be delivered and it was delivered to the RAAF as A9-31. 100 Squadron RAF, which was the intended recipient, evolved into 100 Squadron RAAF and was deployed to Papua New Guinea. T9583 was lost in a crash landing at Port Moresby on June 25, 1942 when returning from a mission. The RAAF serial does appear to have been applied to the aircraft during its brief service. On display at RAF Museum Hendon. This aircraft is one of a number of Australian built Beauforts recovered from Tadji airstrip in Papua New Guinea. The rudder profile and undercarriage doors make it represent a Mk.IIA in the colors of No. 42 Sqn RAF. The original DD931 served with No. 5 (Middle East) Training Sqn and No. 39 Sqn based at Malta. An air launched 18-inch Mk.XII torpedo lies under the aircraft.

The mangled remains of a Beaufort torpedo bomber of RAF Coastal Command lie in a crater near the summit of Hill of Wirren. The aircraft crashed 8 March, 1942, and belonged to 217 Squadron based at RAF Leuchars. The two man crew were both killed in the accident. The wreckage lies not far from that of an RAF Liberator which crashed some two and half years later.
