Ordered as C-69 42-94557 for USAAF but not delivered. Converted to L-049 for BOAC as G-AHEM "Balmoral" and delivered in May 1946. Converted to L-049E in May 1953 as 65-seat all-tourist aircraft. Sold to Capital Airlines as N2735A in October 1954. Crash landed at Charleston WV 12 May 1959. 29,589 total hours.

Aeronavale AAC.1 (licence built Ju52/3m) visiting Ringway to pick up spares from Avro Woodford for their newly converted Lancaster maritime recce aircraft.

"Kaapstad" was the first of four L-749A's to be delivered to SAA in 1950. They replaced Douglas DC-4's on the run to Heathrow. Latterly fitted with 84 seats for domestic tourist class flights. Stored from 1959 and bought by ACE as G-ASYS in early 1965. Seen taxying to London Airport North on arrival from Johannesburg.

"Luangwa" taxies towards Heathrow North on arrival from Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. VP-YIR served CAA from 05.47 to 09.57, then sold to Eagle as G-AHPH. Initial work on constructing Heathrow Central area is visible in background.

BEA's "Admiral Class" Viking 1B "Robert Blake" on finals to its Northolt Airport base. It served BEA from May 1947 until sale to TAIP as CR-IAD in February 1956.

"Grim Viking" taxies to Heathrow North on arrival as sightseers wait (under the nose) to walk across the taxyway on foot to reach the public enclosure. Such was the relaxed atmosphere in those days! SE-BSD served SAS 11.50 until sale in 12.57 to VASP as PP-SQV.
