This S-3A was seen during its approach for a touch and go at NAS Miramar. The aircraft was retired to AMARC on 9 October 1991 and received inventory code 2S0015. Although the US Navy tried to sell the low-flight-hours S-3s to the US Coast Guard and as a cheap maritime patrol aircraft for countries like Brazil, Philipinnes and South Korea, sales never occured. Nearly all left Vikings are stored in the desert up to date. At the time of this picture, VS-33 was assiged to Carrier Air Wing NINE on board the USS Nimitz (CVN-68).

This Skyhawk served as the prototype for the A-4F. It was modified from an A-4E and designated NA-4F for some time before it was transferred to TOP GUN. The aircraft crashed on short-finals of NAS Miramar on 30 November 1989. The A-4F was nearly the same as an Echo, but it was equipped with a nose wheel steering, wing lift spoilers, and an upgraded ejection seat.

This Skyhawk was once assigned to the USMC and served VMA-311 as WL-22. It was thanked for its service and transferred to the US Navy (VC-2 as JE-10). As such it was stored at AMARC with inventory code 3A524 in 1978. It was returned to service and TOP GUN was happy with the skooter. The aircraft carried modex 52, 57 and 55 before it was transferred to VF-45 as AD-600 at NAS Oceana in the early 1991s. Since July 1994, the A-4E is preserved at NAS Key West (FL) as AD-106.

Fighter Squadron (VF) 194 "Red Lightnings" was a short-lived Tomcat unit of the United States Navy. The squadron was re-established on 1 December 1986 and already disestablished on 30 April 1988. VF-194 was planned together with VF-191 for a cruise on the USS Independence as part of Carrier Air Wing 10, but before the cruise could take place the squadron ceased to exist. The squadron lineage runs back to 1952 as it was originally established as VF-91 on 26 March 1952, redesignated VF-194 on 1 August 1963 and disestablished on 1 March 1978.

VF-126 "Bandits" operated with the first badge (26 aircraft) of US Navy F-16s, the aircraft were modified (lighter - other radar and gun removed - and strenghtened, and all provisions for external loads were removed) from F-16A-standard and were designated F-16N. The Navalised version was mainly used for dissimilar air combat training (DACT) mission and acted as adversary aircraft. This 163275 received FMS serial 86-1376 and was retired in June 1994 to AMARC with inventory code AN1F00001 (that became later AAFG0428). It was scrapped by mid-February 2013.
