The Air Ministry ordered two CA.15C from Blackburn. One was a monoplane and the other a biplane (G-ABKW). Other than the wings, the aircraft were identical with the objective of assessing the advantages of one configuration over the other. The monoplane was shown to be superior and the biplane was scrapped. G-ABKV was taken on charge by the RAF as K4241 and joined the Royal Aircraft Establishment fleet at Farnborough. It was used in the development of autopilots and fir radio experiments. Withdrawn in 1936. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

The initial motivation to build an UL plane in Czechoslovakia came about after the IX. World Aerobatic Championship in 1978 at Hosín (LKHS). The Institute of Aviation Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Czech Technical University took up the task and the ŠP-01Špunt was the result. It became the first UL category aircraft in the country after its airworthiness certificate was granted in April 1984. The plane is temporarily on display, in the foyer of the building in which it was built all those years ago, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Institute.

Fairey P.4/34 was developed as light bomber but lost out the Hawker Henley. However by the time it was ready to enter service the RAF's needs had changes and it became a target tug instead. Meanwhile Fairey use K7555 as the basisof a carrier fighter that became the Fulmar. K7555 was later reinforced and deliberately flown into the weighted cables hung beneath barrage balloons. It apparently survived 300 such encounters. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

Designed by Dutch engineer Frederick Koolhoven, the F.K.25 was developed to replace the Sopwith Snipe. This is the second prototype, the first having been lost during an attempt to set a new world altitude record. The F.K.25 was powered by the ABC Dragonfly engine, which was hopelessly unreliable. The project was abandoned when Koolhoven left the British Aerial Transport Company at the end of 1919. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

Private venture designed to meet RAF specification F.7/30. The engine is a Rolls Royce Goshawk installed behind the pilot. Also known as the PV.4. In the end, specification F.7/30 was cancelled. The Hoopoe was a private venture naval fighter that first flew in 1927 and went through many changes before it was sent for service trials in 1932. By then progress had overtaken it and the Hawker Nimrod became the FAA's preference. The photo shows the Hoopoe in its 1929 configuration with an Armstrong-Siddeley Jaguar engine in place of the original Bristol Mercury and single-bay wings in place of two-bay wings. The Jaguar engine was later replaced with an Armstrong Siddeley Panther. N237 was scrapped in 1932. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

The Bourges was designed to be powered by the ABC Dragonfly but problems with the engines meant F2903, the prototype, made its first flight with Bentley rotaries as the Mk. IIA. The ABC engines were fitted later as seen in this photo. F2903 entered the civil register on July 1919, as G-EACE. It was scrapped in May 1920. The location of this photo is not given but may be Mousehold, where Boulton Paul had its works, or Hendon where the F2903 made its public debut. Photo from: Imperial War Museums
