Parked on the East Pad after arriving earlier in the morning on a Sunwing rescue flight from Cancun is this Airbus A330 belonging to Madrid based Wamos Air.

Air Canada Jetz is now operating four A320s for their charter service instead of the three A319s. Interesting how none of them have the Jetz titles anymore, despite getting a total cabin refit with 66 business seats. Departing for Winnipeg as AC7037 yesterday afternoon.

It seems as if a 2nd A319 was brought back into service, presumably for some extra capacity. Seen here on departure to Montreal as AC2008.

"Sunwing (SWG) 508 Heavy" on arrival this afternoon from Edmonton. Nice to see an Omni 777-200ER in here helping out with rescue flights for Sunwing. So far I've seen Jetlines, GlobalX, Wamos and HiFly all flying for Sunwing in an effort to rescue as many stranded travelers as possible.

After the large snowstorm brought mass cancellations to YVR, Korean Air has been sending a 777-300ER over the last few days. Today had the nicest weather as well as happened to be the last visit for the 777. Departing for Seoul as KE072.

American's TWA Retro livery taxis out to 08R for departure to Dallas as AA1415. Yesterday's snowstorm brought YVR to a halt with 2+ hour delays for de-icing during rush hour.

This Pacific Western Airlines Boeing 737-200, CF-PWW, is parked outside the PWA maintenance base on the south side of Vancouver Airport in June 1976. In 1974, the Government of Alberta bought PWA for C$37 million and moved the HQ and maintenance base to Edmonton and the YVR base closed. CF-PWW was delivered to PWA in Dec 1972 and left the Canadian Airlines fleet in April 1992. It returned to Canada with short-lived Titan Charter Aviation in YUL as C-FVHG in April 1995, then joined Westjet in Nov 1995 as C-GWJG. Retired 11/2005. Also flying as N380PA, N862SY, HP-1218 between periods in Canada.

Taken on strength by the Royal Canadian Air Force as 12732, 104732 is pictured in it's last days of service. On April 30, 1982 the fighter was engaged in air combat training with a CF-5 when control was lost and it entered a flat spin. Unable to recover, the pilot ejected and the jet crashed on the training range at Cold Lake, AB.

Just imported by M F Air Services, this Sikorsky S-55D leaves for it's Langley base. The helicopter (or parts of it) is displayed at the Canadian Museum of Flight and Transportation (Langley, BC) in RCAF colors at the time of uploading.

Delivered to the US Navy in June 1943 as JRF-5, Bu No. 34071. Retired to NAS Litchfield Park, AZ and registered N9547C in 1957. To Coastal Aero, Houston, TX as N27Q (1957-1964). To Gordon Gulbertson, CA in 1963. Imported to Canada by Northern Mountain Airlines in March 1964 and upgraded by McKinnon at Sandy, OR in May 1964. To Midwest Airlines, Winnipeg 1969-1972. To West Coast Air Services (WCA) in Nov. 1972. The G-21A was on a scheduled flight from Tofino to Vancouver on Sep 9, 1974 when it crashed in Nitinat Canyon, Mount Cooper, about 10 m north of Lake Cowichan in poor weather. 9 killed.

Former Gateway Aviation Twin Otter was recently added to West Coast Air Services fleet (May 1978) in this photo. Merged with Air West for form Air BC in 1980, it received new colors shortly after.

While Air Canada bought Canadian Airlines in 2000, the airline was operated separately until May 2002 when operations were merged. Some Canadian aircraft wore this interim color scheme (with a Star Alliance logo added on the 747 as Canadian transferred from One World). The 747 is pictured operating without winglets for a very short time. One winglet was damaged in a ground incident and to keep the aircraft flying, the other was removed while the damaged one was repaired / replaced.

This 1977 JetRanger was first with Helcopetre Ailes Du Nord , Les Helcoptere Laverendrye before coming to Nova Helicopters in June 1984. Leaving Nova in September 1985, it continued to fly in Canada with various operators and is current with Qwest Helicopters since 2008 at the time of uploading.

Delivered to the US Navy in 1943 as 37716, it was declared surplus in Seattle in May 1946 and sold as N67586. Upgraded by McKinnon-Hickman from Ranger to Lycoming G-480 engines in 1955 to become a Super Widgeon. Nine owners in AK, CA, MT, OR & WA. Purchased by United Engineering / T.M. Thomson & Assoc. of CYYJ, BC in Oct. 1972 and registered CF-EHI in May 1973. The company were consulting engineers and foresters working for the government and industry. To Alaska in May 1980 as N3767Z. Rebuilt after an accident in July 1983. Reregister N480AK by Timothy Martin of Anchorage in November 2009.

Ready to taxi out for departure to Los Angeles as "Emirates (UAE) 14E Super". This A380 arrived a couple of hours earlier on a medical diversion. This was the 3rd diversion of the week for YVR. This is also the first Emirates A380 to visit Vancouver, and I hope it will not be the last!

This Bristol 175 Britannia was first flown at Filton on Apr. 29, 1958 and delivered BOAC as G-AOVM in June 1958. Retired in Mar. 1964. To British Eagle Int'l Airlines and converted into a 312F freighter in 1967. To Air Spain in Mar. 1969 as EC-BSY. To UK MoD in Nov. 1971 for use by the Aircraft and Armament Experimental Establishment as XX367. Retired in 1984, to Katale Aero Transport as 9Q-CHY then to BCF. World's last operational Britannia when retired in July 1991(?) Canadian Pacific A/L flew six Britannias from YVR in 1958-1966. Was very very rare to see a Britannia at YVR after 1966!

DHC-3 C-FUJM was first seen at YVR in the summer 1978 and had West Coast Air titles by late August. Delivered to the US Army in 1956 as 55-3302. To Europe. Deployed by USAF C-124 to Congo in July 1960 to help rescue US citizens during civil war. To the United Nations Air Transport Force in the Congo as No. 402. Later in Yemen with UN in 1963. To US as N12655, then to Ben Ginter Construction in BC as CF-UJM in 1965. Op. by Trans-Mountain A/S when it crashed on Sep 24, 1971 at Forbidden Plateau on flight from Campbell River to Helen Mackenzie Lake. Stored for about 7 years before repaired.

This Grumman Mallard was delivered new to Copano Oil Co, Victoria, TX in June 1950 as N2983. It was registered to nine different companies in the US before imported by West Coast Air Services in Feb. 1974 as C-GIRL and mainly flew passengers to the pulp and paper town of Ocean Falls, 257 nm NW of YVR. West Coast Air was part of the Air BC merger in 1980, and C-GIRL flew out on the northern BC coast before its sale to the US in Aug 1984 as N2983. Operated by Virgin Is. Seaplane Shuttle as N2983 and N652SS (1985-89). To Caribbean Airline Service. Retired late 1990s in San Juan, PR.

This Grumman Mallard was delivered new to the New York Daily News in May 1947 as NC2962/N2962 and the cockpit windows lowered for aerial photography! Purchased by West Coast Air Services (WCAS) in Dec. 1973 and to CF-HUB. WCAS's Mallard fleet primarily flew pax between YVR and Ocean Falls (ZOF) which was 257 nm NW away and accessible only by ship or seaplane. It was home for the largest pulp and paper mill in BC and the G-73 fleet grew when the BC Government bought the mill in 1973, but declined after the mill closed in 1980. Sold by AirBC to Air Whitsunday in Mar 7, 1983 as N2416X, then VH-LAW.

Air Canada was the first international delivery of Boeing's 767 on October 30, 1982. This is their second aircraft delivered on December 14, 1982. It is pictured with Singapore '85 titles promoting a new Toronto to Singapore service via London and Bombay (Mumbai). The aircraft was retired in 2005 and stored at Marana, AZ. Sold to PMC Aviation in 2012 it was later broken up.
