KL979 had flown from London to Whenuapai carrying the NZ Labour Minister. It picked up the NZ prime minister and flew him to London via Washington DC, completing a round-the-world mission. In London the prime minister attended the first session of the United Nations General Assembly on January 10, 1946. KL979 was returned to the US in 1946 and was then passed to the US Navy.
