Butler operated from Cootamundra to Charleville to connect with mail flights from the UK. The mail was brought to Cootamundra and put on trains bound for Melbourne. The mail otherwise would have travelled via Brisbane and Sydney.

Crashed in landing at Schofields airport, Sydney, during crew training on June 3, 1947. The following month another DC-3 was registered VH-AOH (c/n 12790) and named RMA Warrumbungle. That aircraft had been converted to a 24-seater with an airstair passenger door and eight windows on each side of the cabin, one for each row of passengers. Behind -AOH in the photo are CAC Wackett trainers intended for civil conversion.

Reregistered VH-RMP in 1962.

Crashed at Bourke, New South Wales on December 15, 1955 and burnt out. No injuries.

Ex G-AMUK. Payload was found to be inadequate for Butler's services. Returned to the UK register. Rare colour photo.

Scanned from a photograph sent to me many years ago and still in my possession. Delivered as VH-BAT and later became VH-RMO. Wisley is now permanently closed. It was used by Vickers as a test airfield for Vickers aircraft.

Butler's three Ambassadors did not survive the takeover by Ansett and VH-BUK returned to the UK as G-AMAE. It saw just eight months of service, a part of which was spent being repaired after it sank back into the runway at Canberra, gear up, during crew training on March 1, 1958. VH-ANR joined Butler following the takeover of the airline by the Ansett group. It would soon become Airlines of NSW with VH-ANR remaining as part of the fleet.

Butler Air Transport's first Viscount 747 at Blackbushe, Hampshire, immediately before delivery to Australia, where it became VH-BUT. Merged into Ansett in September 1958 becoming VH-RMP. Broken up at Melbourne (Essendon) in February 1971.
