Flying into retirement on 16 October 2012, this Transall landed short of the runway here and bounced across the road in the background - check out the video. Onward road transport to the aviation museum in Wernigerode, 50 km away, never happened. Transall 5101, the 'Silver Goose', also landed here in December 2017, destined to go to Wernigerode instead.

In the Luftwaffenmuseum, a group of Luftwaffe recruits is taught about the bombing of Rotterdam by Heinkel He 111s of KG 54 in May 1940. This machine was on temporary display in the Dutch city in 2015. It is actually a 1951 CASA 2.111, B.2H-109, later to B.2I-117 when re-engined with RR Merlins. Used for the film 'Battle of Britain' in the late 1960s. To the former German air force museum at Uetersen in 1969; moved to Gatow in 1995. The markings are of a KG 55 aircraft.

This CL.II served as the personal mount of the Commanding General of the German Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte) during WWI, General Gerth von Hoeppner. It then became part of the post-WWI German Aviation Collection only to be subsequently discovered in Poland post-1945. It was transferred to Krakow in 1963 to undergo extensive restoration and is now part of the superb WWI collection of the Polish Aviation Museum.

The Ar-234 Blitz was the first operational jet bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. It's first combat mission, a reccie over the Allied beachhead in Normandy, took place on 2nd August, 1944. Although less famous than the Me-262, the Ar-234s that reached Luftwaffe units provided excellent service. On display at the Udvar-Hazy Center, this is the sole surviving Ar 234 B-2 and served with bomber unit KG76 from Dec. 1944 to May 1945 when British forces captured it in Norway.
