This DC-3 was manufactured in 1942 and TOC by the USAAF as 43-1985, a C-49J. In 1945 it was sold to Trans-Canada Air Lines becoming the first DC-3 operated by that airline. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company bought the aircraft in 1948 and refinished it for VIP transportation, serving with Goodyear until 1983 when the company donated it to the Canada Aviation & Space Museum where it is now on display.

The Columbia was in operation from 1975 until retired in 1986. The control gondola, which was first used on Goodyear's Enterprise airship in 1936 and transferred to the US Navy in WWII, was re-acquired by Goodyear in 1946. In storage until refurbished for Columbia and stored in 1986 after disassembly, the historic item was donated to the National Air and Space Museum in 2011.

Goodyear began to design small light amphibian aircaft in the 1940s. Only one example of the final design, the GA-22A Drake, was built and used for company business and demonstrations at many airports around the country. It remained based in Akron for its entire career and, after retirement, Goodyear donated the frame to the EAA Airventure Museum. In 2010 it returned 'home' for restoration and is now on display at the MAPS Air Museum.

Normally, you're looking up at a Blimp--but having just finished a ride on the "Mayflower" I was able to get this shot from a helicopter as we took off.

Former WWII Veteran and Trans Canada Airliner, this DC-3 was used by Goodyear for 35 years. After retirement it was donated to the National Aeronautical Collection (now the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum).

"Europa" is prepared for sightseeing flights after an overnight stay at Egelsbach airfield near Frankfurt.
