This aircraft is the only one of its kind in Australia. Only two were ever imported, the other (VH-WWL) having been burnt in 1966. VH-WWE was registered new in Australia on 5 November 1962. The Rangemaster was a 5-seat development of the earlier North American, later Ryan, Navion produced immediately after the Second World War. The tip-tanks are a prominent recognition feature.

This aircraft has had an adventurous life. Built in 1984, it was originally D-IDBI (probably a flight test reg) before becoming N233RP with Precision Airlines, later Northwest Airlink. In 1995 it was exported to Nigeria where it became 5N-DOG. In 2007 it was exported to Australia to join the growing GAM Dornier fleet, and was registered VH-VJN on 25 June that year.
