Before coming to the UK the aircraft had previously served in Spain with Aeromarket/ARM as EC-FNS. The aircraft was wearing the livery of its former operator the Spanish freight carrier Aeromarket with whom it flew as EC-FIN. It later made its way to the USA but was parked at Smithville Municipal Airport, TN., where it lapsed into dereliction. It was visible there on Google Maps, (Coordinates 35.9836467, -85.8084385), imagery date November 2017, but had disappeared by the time of the next revision in November 2019. It was re-registered as N578PT to Preferred Airparts of Kidron, OH., in August 2019 so it is thought that it may have been parted out for spares.

Built as 42-23648 and flew with KLM (PH-TBG) after World War II, this C-47 was converted to an executive transport in 1951 by Atlantic Aviation. Utilized by several companies, first as N9997F and later N104E, the aircraft would be registered to Air O'Hare in 1973 as N9BC. On January 1, 1975, it was en route from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale on a charter flight when the number one propeller oversped. The engine was shut down, but the remaining engine eventually overheated and lost power. Forced to ditch near Fort Lauderdale, the three people on board were rescued.

The cattle were not allowed into Australia for biosecurity reasons. Biosecurity also meant the cattle had to be kept on the aircraft from Karachi to Port Moresby.
