Seen outside BOAC's hangar at Heathrow with the UK registration taped on, RRAF-161 was delivered to the Royal Rhodesian Air Force's 3 Sqd on 18 February 1960. The RRAF was the air force of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland (today's Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe). The Canadairs, as they were known locally, formed part or the Federation's commitment to the British forces in the Middle East. When the Federation was dissolved in 1963, the three Argonauts were sold to civilian operators.

The sound of 4 Merlins! This aircraft called in again on the 31st October en route to Gatwick which must have been it's last revenue earning service. As a matter of interest one of the "lads" managed to get a free seat on this a/c so as to get back to the UK. On returning after his "leave" he told us that as the a/c was taxiing around the perimeter track, it ran out of fuel! Whether it was a 'line shoot' or not I will never know. Or perhaps there is someone out there that can confirm this story...............!? To Castle Donington for spares use by British Midland.

Served with BOAC until January 1960 when it was cancelled from the register on sale to the Royal Rhodesian Air Force. It served with the RRAF as serial 180, later 601-N and later still VP-YZN until August 1964 when it was restored to the British register as G-ALHC to Air Links Ltd., later Trans Globe Airways Ltd., but appears to have been acquired for spares as it was broken up at Redhill during the summer of 1965.
