The German Air Force demanded slight changes after testing the G.91 in terms of armament (the machine guns were replaced by two 30 mm cannons) and of navigation devices. From the total of 344 G.91R/3s manufactured, 270 were manufactured by Dornier in Germany under the license agreement with Fiat Avio. The maiden flight of the first G.91R/3 manufactured by Dornier took place on 20th July 1961, the production ended in May 1966.
